The Country Squire Restaurant
The Country Squire Restaurant Winery and Vintage Inn
Is it haunted or something else?
This journey started when a friend sent me a link from a website (only in your state) to this quaint restaurant in the middle of nowhere. The site described this place with such grandeur and made it sound quite haunted so of course with my love of all things paranormal I had to check it out.
They ended up being quite busy with customers but we did get to speak with one of the employees about the rumored haunts of the restaurant.
She informed us they had had the YouTuber Mike with the Heritage Hunters in there for a ghost research night. He is as Iris calls him (the resident paranormal investigator) Even showed us a framed "image" they captured that night.
Now keep in mind this image has been photo edited with negatives and inferred and no telling what else.
She continued to explain how when the restaurant was built in 1961 by Joe West the original owner. He mod podge the building. Repurposing parts from other old buildings. Churches, schools, and the like.
He even used an old farmhouse that is approximately 200 years old that has now been turned into a winery.
Of course, with that in mind, it must be haunted right? When using items from times long past there is always a chance of a ghost tagging along.
Entry room
Originally the restaurant was only able to seat 76 people. Over the years more rooms have been added to the restaurant now it can seat over 400 including the walking-in area that I utterly loved! (photo above) It is very beautiful and welcoming.
One of the best parts is the truly Scottish Gaelic welcome with a hundred thousand welcomes tartan banner.
One of the latest addition to the restaurant itself is the Jestor Court.
Gave me more of a ballroom feel.
In 2006 the winery opened and let me tell you the wine is amazing. If you are having doubts about giving this place a try. Don't. If nothing else get some wine!
The photo doesn't do the 1.5-acre vineyard justice.
The food wasn't bad but if you're anything like me and love blue cheese their homemade blue cheese was just as worth it as the wine.
While you are out strolling the grounds be sure to stop in at the sunken garden.
Their dining area is the most unique I've ever seen. With wonky-shaped rooms, some much lower than others, a ballroom or as they call it the Jesters Court, candlelight on each table, and what gives off an old speakeasy fortune teller room.
After doing a little online research pretty much everything says the same to the point I wonder if it was copied pasted and reworded. And after my own phone call, I don't feel any different.
The restaurant has no mysterious past no spooky legends of its history and yet it is rumored to have lots of paranormal activity and no one knows why however I find it odd The Country Squire restaurant website itself does not mention anything of ghosts.
After 3 weeks 2 emails and a phone call trying to get in touch with Iris for more background on the Squire, I finally reached her via phone call.
Iris had worked for Joe many years ago and when the opportunity came about for purchase she jumped at the chance. Even with no blood ties to Mr. Joe, she was excited to take over. Even adding her own Scottish spin to the place.
I inquired about doing my own paranormal hunt there and she said that she has an "in-house" team Mike. and that whoever hunts comes with him. And that he hasn't been in a while. Not wanting anyone else to investigate is a red flag in my opinion.
Knowing I was interested in investigating she didn't mention ghosts or anything past what I previously mentioned.
This place has so much charm and peaceful energy from the welcoming fire to the unique dining area, the sample appetizer available while you wait for your table, and the sunken garden all the way to the cute hotel room it really is a must-see!
I am sad to say however after speaking with Iris and from my visit at this time I can not agree with all the hype of it being haunted but don't let that stop you from visiting this awesome little restaurant, winery, and inn!
I know we will be back!

When I spoke to Iris she would not verify a working email one way or another.
